What’s included?
A psychological evaluation includes a clinical interview with the client and/or collateral contacts. Also included are standardized assessments that the client completes to provide an objective measure of certain behaviors, emotions, and possible symptoms. A cognitive assessment is also included.
Types of Assessment Measures:
Cognitive Assessment
This is a measure that provides a standardized IQ, which assesses the client’s verbal skills, ability to understand relationships between parts and patterns, memory, and processing speed.
Behavior and Emotional Functioning
This can assess any specific symptoms the client may be experiencing such depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, and client’s personality. These assessments can provide clarity on the client and way in which they perceive themselves and the world around them.
Adaptive Functioning
This assessment provides insight into a client’s abilities to care for themselves and function independently. This type of measure is typically given when there are concerns about Intellectual Disability and deficits in cognitive functioning.

This is an assessment to understand the client’s reading, spelling, writing, and mathematical abilities to assess for any potential learning difficulties or learning disabilities. This assessment can provide clarity if a client is at, behind, or exceeding grade level expectations.
Attention and Executive Functioning
This assesses how well the client can focus and if there are any concerns about inattention or hyperactivity. It can assess the client’s ability to stay on task, remain organized, shift attention, self-regulate, initiate or begin tasks independently. This measure can be given when there are concerns about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or any type of executive functioning difficulties.
Motor and Visual Perceptual Abilities
This assesses the individual’s fine motor and gross motor abilities to see if there are deficits in these skills. This can be a concern if the client has difficulty writing or holding a pen or pencil. Visual Perceptual skills pertain the client’s ability to perceive and interpret what they are seeing.
Memory
This assesses for any short-term memory issues, such as the ability to remember information for a short period of time. This can be impacted by inattention and focusing difficulties as well.
